Trip to the Green Forest

(Open Ended Play)

It has been a while that Y asked to be read for this Peppa Pig School Bus Trip. She asked for it before went to nap. The book was about going to a green mountain forest on a bus, I say while she was sleeping why not prepare a green forest #invitationtoplay tray?

The thing is, what kind of green forest? It has been a while no play dough is being played at home. We also have a bunch of sticks and fern leaves from her morning’s collection that she hasn’t water nor arrange yet. It was decided: we’ll make use them.

Materials:

-a tray

-sticks

-fern leaves

-a muffin silicone cup

-a tractor and a bus toy

-a rolling pin

-green homemade play dough

Instruction:

-homemade play dough, collecting leaves and also sticks are fun things to do together with your kiddo. It is optional but, highly recommended to invite your toddler to join in play dough making and collect materials

-cut sticks if necessary

-roll, flat and shape play dough to a green part of the tree

-stuck sticks bellow the green part of the tree

-add fern leaves on the green part of the tree

-add toys, container and tools to the tray and present to your toddler to explore freely

Y totally loved it! She already knows now that a tray should be waiting for her after nap. She said “green” directly once she saw it.

She began by taking the book and asked me to read for her.

She then played with the play dough ball on the tractor and the muffin cup.

She was reluctant at first to touch the forest, but once she touched it, she couldn’t resist to pull free the fern leaves and the sticks only to poke the play dough with the freed stick.

She gathered the play dough ball and started to roll it flat.

This invitation to play really does spark our afternoon!
