Our daughter has hung out in the kitchen with us from the beginning. We let her to observe us cooking. Somewhere around 18 months she was ready to start helping out with simple tasks. She still needs lots of instruction and supervision, but she’s very enthusiastic about helping out!

One of those simple tasks is preparing Y’s favorite these day: tofu scramble.

All I needed to do was set up a tray (to catch any mess, if there’s any), a big bowl and extra firm tofu blocks. I made sure she has washed her hands and simply present the tray in front of her.

She would dig right into it. Squeezed it with all her might, let it crumble into tiny bits and pressed some more with both hands against the bowl. Super cute!

Whoever thought that tofu could be a great sensory play for a toddler. Any tofu can be eaten raw so it’s safe to eat. Meanwhile I could prepare other ingredients for dinner. Win-win for everyone, isn’t it?
