Y loved the idea of dabbing the sponge onto the paper and seeing the texture of the sponge.

Materials:
-sponge as small as your toddler’s handgrip (we used only 1/4 of our original sponge, meaning it can last 4 times more)
-4 homemade paint colors
(1/4 cup flour, 1/4 cup water, mix together until no more lumps, divide into each color containers and add a few drops of food coloring)
-4 lids, turned upside down as paint color containers
-black and white pee-made collage
-tray
Instructions:
-present the materials
-let your toddler explore
At first she enjoyed to see how if she took too much paint on the sponge it would drip, but then she realized it’s easier to paint when there was less paint. She took her time to observe each and every drip of oversaturated paint in the sponge. She was touching the paint just before it dripped, feeling its texture on the tips of her fingers.
In the end she back to paint using the sponge, and with less paint after some time. Dab dab dab and she could paint more evenly.
I could see the difference when we use a picture page as opposed of a blank page. Somehow she always painted the face of animal pictures first. She recognized each and every animal’s face. The faces were her upmost priority to be painted, as can be seen on the monkey, cat and dog faces.
