(Open ended play)

Our daughter has hung out in the kitchen with us from the beginning. We let her to observe us cooking. Somewhere around 18 months she was ready to start helping out with simple tasks. She still needs lots of instruction and supervision, but she’s very enthusiastic about helping out!

One of those simple tasks is preparing Y’s favorite these day: shredding.

All I needed to do was set up a a big bowl of oyster mushrooms and a frying pan (this time already with chopped garlic and sliced onion) on her table. I made sure she has washed her hands and simply present the materials in front of her.

Whoever thought that mushroom could be a great sensory play for a toddler. Meanwhile I could prepare other ingredients for dinner.

Win-win for everyone, isn’t it?
