To celebrate the 50th year of moon landing, I had an idea to introduce how rocket goes to the moon to my daughter.

Simple to make, simple to play.
Y chose the color of her rocket and moon. She called the moon “biscuit” though despite knowing that it’s the moon. She painted them rather roughly and asked my help to finish the detail. We had to wait the paint to dry, but as usual she couldn’t wait. No worries, to luck it’s easy to cut another rocket shape. She played with the spare rocket while eating, playing outside and she even took it with her to nap.

All you need:
-Cardboard box
-Scissors
-Yarn
-Homemade paint and brush
-Tape
-Straw
-Black marker

How to:
-Cut out the rocket, moon, and two small stopper pieces out of cardboard.
-Paint the spaceship and moon. I highlighted rockets’s lines using black marker once the paint dried.

-Cut your straw in half. Tape it to the back of the spaceship.
-Fold the long piece of string in half. Tape the middle of the string to the back of your moon.
-String two yarns through the two straws. Tape the ends of yarn to cardboard stopper so that the spaceship doesn't fall off.

ready to take off

pull the two stopper apart

and it shoots straight to the moon.
To operate the rocket, I simply attached the moon to the corner of our table (or door knob). Then, I pull the two stopper apart and our spaceship shoots straight to the moon. She was so excited with the rocket and moon, and kept playing it over and over again by herself soon after.
Here is the mechanics behind the engineering of rocket goes to the moon.
