This is a super easy activity to introduce rainbow color as our theme today. This is a kind game to warm up before we do certain craft. Toddler loves to be right. It boost one’s confidence, which surely brighten the mood.

We went to the city park today, walked around, and played at the outdoor playground. She also swam in the water park. The weather was super nice, all sunny with blue sky. We intentionally left our iPhones at home and brought 2 sets of rainbow colors handprints for us to play.

Materials:

-2 sets of rainbow colors handprints

Instruction:

-lay down 1 set of handprints by following rainbow colors sequence: red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, dark blue (should be indigo), and purple

-scatter the other set randomly in front of your toddler

-ask your toddler to pick and grab certain rainbow color

-ask your toddler to put it to its match

Y is 2.5 years old. Even though this matching game is the first time we did together, I knew she was already familiar with these colors so it is supposed to be a super easy game. She loves handprints so it’s a pure joy on her part to play along.

Once she matched all those handprints, she stood up, clapped her hands while saying “we did it” like Dora the Explorer did. It has been months I think since her last time she did this gesture. Oh how time flies. She used to do it all the time with every new accomplishments.

She didn’t stop there though. We had an empty glass jar nearby for our next rainbow activity. She took all the finished handprints, cleared them all up from the tray and put them inside the jar. She did it while counting from one to fourteen.

It amazes me always on how creative a child is. Even a simple matching game could be counting game or even a pretend play prop for her figurine in a way an adult like me might miss otherwise.
