(Open ended play)

Sometimes we just need to let the child lead the way.

Material:

-a container of pompom, goggly eyes and buttons

-Lego Duplo airplane

-tray

Instruction:

-present the materials to your toddler

-let your toddler explore freely

This is one activity that I would need to give 100% credit to Y. I wasn’t even prepping these materials for her in this way of play, but she definitely give me precious insights. Those things inside the container were simply part of our art and craft supply. I was preparing something for tomorrow morning activity but was distracted before putting any other materials on the tray. A room was in need of a quick cleaning before we went to bed and found out 30 minutes later that she had been playing happily with these while her dad had fallen asleep on her side.

She was grabbing, pouring, transferring from one hand to another, collecting just pompoms to queue them in a line while counting from one to twenty. Who taught her to line up pompoms? How neat! I was left amazed, still am, even now.

After I return to her side, she took her favorite Lego Duplo airplane. She would open the yellow top, load it with most of these items, close the top and continued to load all these items through its window.

She was flying the airplane around our bedroom around. It was fully loaded so of course it left a trace of buttons and goggly eyes on its track. Then it was bedtime.

“Nighty nite, airplane!”
