Play Foam

(Open Ended Play)

An instagram account (@mothercloud) shared it the other day and I couldn’t resist my temptation to try it.

Materials:

-1/2 cup dish soap

-1 cup water

-food coloring (yellow)

-containers

Instruction:

-mix in a blender for 1 minute

Usually I have explained a bit instruction for Y before she dug into her tray. I let her explore freely however to observe how she’d reacted after I presented this tray with all its materials. She does know what to do. She did enjoy to pour each liquids in the measuring cup, most of all the liquid soap which is so dense it drip little by little on its last drops.

She closed the lid, released the cable free and plugged it in the socket. I had to help her because our socket is indeed with a safety. I also helped with the food coloring. When all was done, she was so excited to push the blending button. We have our semi manual blender here, which means she needs to hold her thumb or point finger on the button to keep it on. I was counting numbers from one to twenty and repeated for three times (hence, one minute). She was totally into blending, add counting into that, surely she’s gotten herself even more excited. I helped her to pour the foam on the tray.

She was reluctant however to touch, so I offered spoon, fork and a few muffin silicone cups. She dug the foam using the plastic fork, dumped it into the muffin cups, dug some more with spoon and burried the fork. Lastly, she was observing how the foam has turned into yellow water in one of the muffin cup. She poured it several times from the level of her eyes, to see it even more clearly. She tried to wipe clear the leftover on this particular muffin cup before finally abandon the tray in conclusion.

She was in her zone, like for ages! Look at the last picture, she left long after the foam was no more there. There was only yellow water left on the tray.
