We were learning all about about the ocean this week. Everybody loves the crab, don’t they? Whenever we see one, we all pretend to pinch each other. Y would giggle and laugh out loud whenever we approach her tummy (or nose) in a movement as if to pinch her. Ah, that burst out laughter moments, precious!

Materials:
-1/2 paper plate
-a piece of red paper
-scissors
-red paint
-a sponge
-glue
-googly eyes
Instruction:
-start by painting paper plate red using sponge
-cut out paper into: 2 claws, 2 long strips and 2 small strips
-fan fold the longer strips
-add glue to the top of the 1/2 paper plate. Add the two smaller strips. Add glue to the ends of them and add the eyes.
-add glue to the sides of the plate and add the folded strips
-glue the claws on the end and let dry
Y was supposed to paint the plate, but she loves to stamp too much so it was basically stamped all over. It was colored red and she had the most fun stamping it, so why not?
Fan-folding was quite a challenge for her who was 2 years 5 months old. I ended up helping.
Glueing was do-able since I made sure to give task per item. One by one, one step at a time. With a child craft should be a play. Once it’s no longer fun, the game is over.
I wasn’t quite sure which one more interesting for her: the googly eyes or claws. She took her time to play with each of those pairs. One thing for sure, when she realized what it was when it was finished: “Oh! A Crab!” with all those laughter and blooming smile, it just made my day. Yes, I didn’t tell her we were making a crab. The clue was only that it is an animal who lives in the ocean. Just like a puzzle, the trill goes up as we’re getting closer to the last piece.
I know it made her day too since she brought it just everywhere til our outing in the evening while showing it to everyone she saw on the way. She even slept with the crab.
Have a CRAB-u-lous day!
