(Open ended play)

We were rather stuck inside yesterday afternoon because the heatwave outside was too strong even water in the pool has gone overly warm. Apart from spent our time chilling under the shade while drank lemonade, we did a simple sensory tray out of everything from our pantry.

Exploring with senses is hard to put into activity terms as we use our senses all day long to explore on an everyday basis, but this tray take it a step further into exploring with our senses.

The flower is Y’s last surviving garden collection from the other day that has been showcased in the pantry.

The rest were seeds, dry fruits, sliced orange peel, nuts and spices.

I filled each items on a square in a checkered pattern on the squared tray, laid it on her table (on top of a chopping board) and let her explore it freely.

She brought the chopping board along with the tray closer to her and began exploring independently. Date was her first pick. She bit and tasted the sweet taste of juicy dates. The same she did with cashew nuts and walnut. She saw the frangipani flower in a closer look before transferring it to the side of chopping board.

She touched the seed inside its square, black mustard seeds interested her the most, with her finger tips. She picked up orange peels closer to her nose to sniff and enjoy the heavenly smell before putting them. The same thing she did with cardamom seeds and cinnamon stick.

She lifted up the coriander seeds and drizzled them back from above to make lovely rainy sounds just with the movement she did with her fingers.
