What if we gave a toddler a re-used shredded paper as brush, paints and envelope to paint with?
Answer: a fun messy play!

The other day I got a printed newspaper in the mail. We have been opting for digital option than printed one for years now and determined to re-use the paper instead of just throwing it after read once. I love to create kids art and activities using stuff we already have, so I got to thinking about what I could do with all this pages. We’ve made a few crafts with it. Somehow I got it in my head that we could paint with this stuff. So here is our Painting with Shredded Paper project.

To make the shredded paper easier to paint with, I made small piles of the paper, folded in half lengthwise and gathered its folded end together using a rolled strip of paper and rubber bands. I had to make sure they were wrapped super tight and that there were no loose pieces that could fall out during painting.

Instead of painting on a plain old paper as usual, I re-used a white packaging box as her canvas of the day while also (maybe) help to contain more mess. We also in need of envelope for greeting cards, so I folded 2 envelopes out of paper for her to paint.

Y enjoyed pouring the paint and mixing the colors with her shredded paper “brush.”

It wasn’t as messy as I thought.

Our hands were red and blue by the end of it, but we learned to paint in a new way and had some frugal fun.

Here’s how the envelope looks like afer they were dried

and their other side’s view. She did quite a good creation from messy fun play, didn’t she?
