It’s important for children to get outdoors and enjoy their environment. With the check list, my 2.5 Y can complete the scavenger hunt independently and work on reading illustrations.

Materials:

-nature scavenger hunt checklist paper

Instruction:

-present the checklist paper to your kiddo

-let your kiddo read the illustration and hunt independently

We love getting outdoors during any weather, Y particularly loves exploring and looking at nature up close. With so many wonderful things to look at and find, we used this fabulous checklist.

For this activity we decided to go around our home to see what we could find and tick off from our ‘Nature Scavenger Hunt’ paper. It was so exciting for Y hand she couldn’t wait to find her first piece of nature.

It is ideal for getting little ones to match objects (leaf on the ground and a leaf illustration on the paper) and record what they have found with a tick or by circling it. It gives her a huge sense of satisfaction.

She discovered that some things listed were harder to find than others. The grass was easy to find as there was lots of it under our feet, however, the sand required her to go around towards our backyard before she found it.

She recognized bark as it was our theme yesterday. She touched the tree bark but abruptly ran away to the kitchen to grab the cinnamon bark before moving on to her next piece of nature.

She picked our fresh red cherry tomatoes as her fruit but later she also found another fruit from our huge tree, which has been in this property before we moved in. I honestly don’t know what is that hairy fruit plants name.

We struggled to find clouds, which was on the scavenger hunt checklist, but this morning sky was totally blue. About an hour later there was some clouds however and she could tick it off from her list.

It was so lovely to see her look at nature so closely. The scavenger hunt really changed the way she interacted with her environment. She carefully touched the textured surface of the leaves on the ground and compared it to the green leaves found on the bush. It was lovely to see.

She also became excited to see the flowers next to our gate, which we have passed by many times, but just not noticed.
