(Open Ended Play)
Playing muddy can be indoor and with edible materials. Here is how!

Materials:
-chocolate play dough
-water in a container
-Lego Duplo shovel, figurines and other pieces or any other toys/household items, should they want to use them
Instruction:
-present the materials to your toddler
-let your toddler explore freely
It was the first time we did it. I gave a cue word of “muddy puddles” before I let her play. She already familiar with that term because it is Peppa Pig’s most favorite thing, but I wasn’t quite sure she’d know what to to related to these materials at first.
She did though.
She took the shovel, spooned water from the container several times, and eventually tip over the container to pour the rest of the water to dissolve the chocolate play dough. She stick the shovel several time into the dough and used her fingers to squeeze, stir and mix even more dough with water.

Once most of the tray was covered in “mud”, she took the figurines. I thought she’d let them jump up and down in muddy puddles. She had other interest in mind: to bury them under the mud.

She would use both the shovel and hands to add mud on the figurines. She assemble all the clumpy dough using hands while spooning the watery mud using the shovel. Once the figurines were buried, she’d say “Oh no” and ask “Where are they?” She would lift each figurine up, wipe its face and say “There it is.”
