We're big on making smoothies in our house. Frankly, I don't know many kids that object to tossing foods in a blender and then getting to press the "on" button to pulverize them. I thought if I want to get my kiddo to eat food that's good for her, get her involved in the preparation process. Making smoothies is one of the most perfect, fun and simple opportunities to do just that.

Y had been joining me to make smoothies since when she was in my tummy. These days, at 2 years 7 months of age, she could make smoothies with all real ingredients and tool independently (under supervision). Yes, I let her work with real glass jar/cup, ceramic bowl, and electric blender.

It is good to start young to lay a strong foundation while young learner is willing.
Ingredients:
-2 frozen banana
-1/4 cup frozen berry
-1/4 cup cold water
-1 seedless orange
All you need:
-bowls and a glass jar for all ingredients
-electric blender (we used Tefal Fruit Sensation Compact Blender)

Opening the lid was quite a challenge for her. She‘s already familiar with our Tefal blender though, she made it after a few wiggle.

First thing first, she poured the water in.

frozen bananas were next,

followed by frozen berries,

peeled a sweet juicy orange,

and threw them in,

one by one!

Don’t forget to close the lid.

And finally the best part: blitz time!
What is she learning:
-practical life
-language skills
-social skills
-reasoning & concept development
-motor skills
-math
-science
Beyond the simple pleasure she take from this practical life activity, it is valuable because these skills require repetition to gain mastery, which is great for building concentration. She enjoys feeling like the big people and being able to contribute. She also learns new skills, independence, and a feeling of self-reliance.
So, power up the blender, grab your little one and have a great time preparing a uniquely delicious and nutritious treat for the whole family.
