Make a Mess with Folded Magazine Page

I have to admit that there are just so many things kids can do with magazine, but with a toddler a theme could be intriguing. I resisted the temptation to make something that my daughter at her young age could not enjoy. So most of the thing we did were based on trial and error. Some failed while some worked and I would post it on this page.

When collage was not her interest this week, I decided to introduce her to do folded-magazine-page stamping. She loves butterfly so I prepared one. Apparently, this one sparks joy for her.

I set up a tray with folded butterfly, homemade paints on re-used jar containers, construction papers and silicone brush. To make it less overwhelming, I simplified the tray into 3 parts (based on paint and paper color).

Firstly, with yellow paint.

Secondly, with red paint.

Thirdly, with blue paint.

And here are end of her messy play creation.
Another confession, I added the tittle of this project last. No particular plan, I let her lead the way on what she might would like to do with all the materials.

She tried to color the buttefly evenly. When I slid in the paper on her tray, without any prompt I heard her “stamp” cue word.

That was this project about then: painting and stamping.

It’s always fascinating for me to observe a young kiddo experimenting with colors, making a mess while learning. A simple thing she learned how to use both hands to make the folded butterfly peeled off from stamped paper for instance. I know I take it for granted my ability now to move more efficient when I look at her. As she grow, she learned herself how to be more effective. She was once a baby, and now look at her. Oh where does my baby go?

She was once a baby, and these days I happen to always ask the same question daily: oh where does my baby go?
