(Craft)

We had a desert theme activities yesterday. We began with a picture book read aloud session, to be followed by open ended green rice sensory bin. Y filled, scooped, sifted and so much more AND we talked about it all together. After playing with the green colored rice, we did a quick flashcard with desert theme and the morning was closed with this quick activity.

Materials:

-black and white picture of cactus

-a handful of green rice

-pink crepe paper strips, folded and rolled to form a cactus flower

-glue

-pencil color

Instruction:

-ask your toddler to add glue on the cactus picture

-ask your toddler to sprinkle/pour the green rice on the cactus

-add glue on the ball pink crepe paper, ask your toddler to put it on the cactus.

It was the last session before lunch. We focused on the cactus and glueing only, so I already colored the desert, the small cactus and the sun. When it dried simply shook off the excess rice.

Y already able to do the craft by herself as per instruction. She might poured more rice than the glue can hold and one of the flower seems like to be flying up in the sky, but no matter what, she did enjoy the session. She kept on saying “sun,” “flower,” “cacti,” “desert,” and “hot” til the rest of the day each time she saw, grabbed and waved this page around the room.
