Lettuce Sails on Citrus Boats

We had eaten so many oranges this week and it struck me to realize how we could use its skin to make citrus boats. I’ve been wanting to make one for a while now, but playing with food is quite a challenge with Y. She sees food as food, to be eaten not to play with. Once we tried to make boat and she wanted to peel the orange right away. Citrus boat mission back then: failed. So I made this while my daughter was sleeping. In the hope that she’d play it when she’s awake.
After the fruit was halved, I set the juicy orange aside into a bowl for me and Y to share later a bit together. I placed some water, food coloring and propped a pipe cleaner in the middle and into the freezer they went.
Y didn’t collect any leaf but she took a lettuce leaf for our salad by the grocery store this morning. I used those leaves as sail instead.
I introduced her to these citrus boats. She was super duper excited to see it. Do you know the first thing she did? She grabbed the lettuce and snacked the sail away.
To luck the rest is not quite edible to her taste so we did play boats with a bit of adjustment. I will share how she eventually played with these boats, stay tune.
