(Open ended play)
Y has started to show an interest in counting these past three months. She knows her numbers well from 1 to 20, though sometimes she counts up to 100. Numbers have come easily and early but I’ve been going along with her interest, exposing her to numbers in her play environment and practising one-to-one correspondent.

I focused on numbers 1-7 here. We used Lego number blocks from their train number set. I cut out a pumpkin picture as her activity map, if she’d like to use.

She needs plenty of patience exercise with small things. Unfortunately orange pips were just too small and slippery. She
loved pumpkin so we used cleaned and air-dried pumpkin seeds on glass jar lids here as her counting tool instead.

She counted and shouted out loud the number on each of the blocks while lining them up on the pumpkin mat.

She then pinched and placed the seeds one by one on the blocks while counting.

Lastly it was about making high tower, did balancing and eventually punched the tower down before repeating the whole play over again.
