(Open ended play)

Our kiddo favorite words these days are: “Help me! Help me! Help me!” She happen to love her train and fire truck oh so much as well, but she has issue with tapes. She dislike its stickiness, somehow I think it frustrates her. Does she love her toys more or dislike the tape more? One way or another, either she’d learn to play with tape or we know that tape is a no-no (for the time being).

Materials:

-6 plastic cups

-transparent tape, its width should be enough to cover the cup’s mouth

-scissor

-6 toys, preferable your kiddo’s favorites

Instruction:

-insert the 6 toys into 6 plastic cup

-cut 6 tapes long enough to cover the whole cup’s mouth

-cover the cups with tape

-put them all in a tray and present them to your kiddo

-let your kiddo explore freely

She shook the cup like a rattle toys, until she realized her fire truck is trap inside. She handed it over to me asking, “Help me! Help me! Help me!”

I smiled and said “Would you like to try help free your firetruck yourself?”

“Yes!”

And she just got herself so much right into it. She didn’t even care so much that it’s a tape she was playing with. She had not so much problem to peel the tape open.

Her face when she freed the trains, car and firetruck was so priceless. She lifted her toy, waved it in front of me, laughed hard, played with it a bit before continued to rescue the rest.

When I thought the game was over after all her toys were already safe and sound out of the cup, she collected the tape, rolled it into a ball and threw it into the trash bin. Oh my, I thought I was going to shock her with the tray, but she ended up surprising me.

She also stacked the cup before playing with all the 6 cups and toys for more as an open ended play. She was occupied with them for another 20 minutes, to my yet another amusement.
