Lots of simple things could be a way for young kiddos to learn. We let our daughter to pick her own favorite fruits to add to our shopping cart/basket and to help arrange them at home so that they’re presentable at the counter. Going to the store and filling a basket with healthy fruits is always fun.

It encourages role play which helps children to develop social skills by imitating grown-ups and inventing their own roles. It also helps our young learner to develop fine motor skills and hand/eye co-ordination.

Apart from her picks (orange and banana), we also bought grapefruit, lemon and lime to be used for our sensory fruit activities. I let her arrange as she please, but she might has been influenced with my way of arrangements over these past years (bigger and more firm fruits at the bottom, smaller and more soft one on top).

No one can deny the loveliness and charm of a well-put-together fruit basket. The sweet smell of ripening fruits (unfortunately mango is not currently in season) adds warmth and comfort to the room. They’re in plain sight and conveniently located, so we are more likely to choose fruit as a nutritious snack.
