Thinking of it now, paint should be our first choice for making prints. It surely is the easiest. I was stuck in the idea of medium safety for little children and skipping the fact that homemade edible paint is actually do-able. Our first project turned out to be tracing hands and feet using a pencil in which she was the one who asked me to help trace her hands and feet for her.
For sure an important part is to make sure your little one is in a happy mood. No art and craft should be made without their joy or excitement to begin with. Most of the time I open the invitation to play, but what come next solely depend on my kiddo. Without any expectation, no dissapointment nor anxiety. Only and if only she is IN then we shall proceed.
To make the footprints, I quickly said “Let’s make a footprint!” I asked her to sit down and brush her foot with paint while she was seated. After she had her fun coloring her own foot, I brushed some more while disguising my own intention to make sure an even paint. I helped by guiding her foot to the paper. Gently press down on her foot to make sure we left an actual footprint. “Let’s count to 5 together,” I said. Counting always works like a charm to buy some time.
At 2.5 years old of age, Y loves to make her own handprints and footprints. She’s more than cooperative, so it has been a bless. We might do more hand-footprints related art and craft in the future. Stay tune!
