We found a treasure on our morning stroll yesterday: a cut up flower! The park gardener were pruning some plants and she was smilingly saying “hi” at him so he offered her a flower. She treasured it by holding it tight until home.

I offered her two tall glass jars and she picked the ex tomato jar.

I set up a tray for her: 2 water glass jars, the flower and the ex tomato jar.

We do flowers arrangement quite often, so know the drill, but this is her first fresh and big cut of flower. She always begins with the funnel. Lesson learned from past experiences, it will help her to pour in the water without or at least less spilling.

It’s a collapsible funnel. At first it was not fully collapsed. She fixed it nicely so that it fully functioned.

And of course the pouring part was the most fun. The flowers arrangement has made our day.

It might be a simple thing for a grown up, but it was quite a challenge for her when she was younger. She used to see me arranging flowers for our table when she was young and I realized how keen she was to do what big people does. I thought she needed to learn somehow and why not follow her interest. It is a practical skill anyway: to pour liquid, to use glass jars, and to arrange. I could see how proud she was (still is) when she saw her collection on show by our dining table or wherever she chose it to be.

I paired it with reading ‘How Do Flowers Grow?’ from Usborne. Each page has lots of detail to keep Y engaged while learning about flowers! The illustrations are so much fun, too. And lift the flaps always hooked my young learner.
