Flower arrangement with toddler is a great activity for many reasons. The activity is simple, inexpensive and uses real objects. Benefits include fine motor development, concentration and self regulation. Plus the materials are easy to gather: a vase or bowl or glass and flowers.

Park gardeners were pruning and left behind fresh cut leaves such as shown in the picture. She was staring at the flowers and greens for quite a while until finally grabbed them in her arm and claimed them as her collection-of-the-day. It’s not everyday she could get a free boquet material, but when we do, we gather, water and enjoy them for as much as we can.

Gathering the flowers together is highly recommended. Knowing how flowers come from instead of seeing it magically appear beautifully arranged displayed at home is a great lesson: to see all things as a whole. If your kiddo is older then it could began from even planting the seeds.
