Y had been collecting items for a few weeks now: flowers, leaves, little stones and sticks, unfortunately to be squeezed into my tiny tight pocket pants. Today I asked her to gather her collection in a container instead. She had quite fun to use the water tap to water her collection’s container, instead of just for a drink as her usual treat post playing in the park.
Y was genuinely surprised this time to see that her collection survived our outing trip. No more pathetic wilted flowers and leaves.
Materials:
-container
-a bit of water
Outdoor instruction:
-let your toddler play in the outdoor and gather her collection
-put the collections inside a container with some water in it to keep them fresh

Material:
-flowers collections
-water
-glass container
-tray
At home instruction:
-present the materials
-pour water into the glass container
-add flower collection and arrange
-invite your toddler to place their flower arrangement somewhere in the home
-clean up and put everything away.
She was excited when I presented her the arrangement tray. Of course as parents we could never know what kind of collections our toddler collected. Unlike other days, she only picked red flowers earlier today. Therefore, no drowned stones on the bottom of the glass container as I was predicted.
First I ask her to choose which glass container she prefer: “the left one or right one?” She picked “this one.” She’s much more happier to have a say on things. This is her collection and craft anyway.
I needed to demonstrate how to arrange flowers because it was he first time Y has ever tried flower arranging. Young children learn best by imitating others. I showed her how to arrange flowers using the other container that she didn’t choose, by completing the activity step by step and describe what I was doing as I work. It’s not shown here but since there was not enough flower for both of us, I used a bunch of fresh English parsley as an example for her.
Pouring the water was a part of the highlight. I let her to pour water on both of our containers. We knew it would be overflown out of the small glass container. That’s why the tray would come handy.
Another excitement was that now each time we sit on our dining table she could see how she could feel like a valued contributor to the household. And looking at it, who can argue? It’s lovely indeed.
