(Art & craft)

What can we make for her daddy that she could have fun with in the process of making it? I saw a white bow tie the other day at a dollar store and this is what we come up with.

Materials:

-a white bow tie

-paints

-a lunch box

-rubber bands

-paper(s), optional

-a tray

Instructions:

-fit the rubber bands over the box, spacing them out evenly. Depending on the size of your box, you can use as many rubber bands as you want.

-let your toddler chose his/her paint colors and start making the rubber band splatter paintings!

Let me tell you, it was a good thing that we prepared papers. This messy art and craft play is so fast that she’d ask for more and more. The more media we provide the longer the fun. So why not extend it?

There’s something magnetic with messy play that pull young children so. As if they’re born with this line “the messier the better.” I present her tray for the day to contain our messiness.

Next, I slid the bow tie (or papers afterwards) she was going to paint, underneath the rubber bands and into the bottom of the box. You might need to cut the paper to fit the box like we did. We even traced and cut a handprint as one of those papers.

I gave her example once and she started covering each rubber band with paint using the help of a silicone brush. We found that a generous amount of paint works best! She used just one color for each band first, but the second time around she had fun mixing more than one color on each band.

I told her that she could flicker-pull the bands and then let them go to see what would happen. Her reaction made me smile. She giggled as she watched the paint splat all over the paper.

When she decided she was done with the bow tie, I swapped in a new paper so she could make herself another work of art!

“Happy Father’s Day to all daddies in the worlds!”
