(Craft)
This is one of the easiest project that a toddler could have fun totally with.

Materials:
-glue stick
-paper
-torn or cut pictures of various things (preferably which your toddler had familiar or known of)
Instruction:
-present the materials
-ask your toddler which picture he/she’d like to pick first
-ask what item the picture is
-ask your toddler to glue the pictures on the paper
Depending on your toddler’s fine motorik ability, you may hand your toddler the pictures and scissor to rip and cut her/himself. Y is not yet able to use a scissor and cut the pictures precisely. I handed her a piece of paper and safe scissor however to practise while I was cutting the materials’ pictures for her. She opens the scissor with both hands instead of using her thumbs and torn the paper more than cut it. She had fun to see the pictures I was cutting for her nonetheless.
We had 13 pieces of black and white pictures. It doesn’t have to be black and white, we just happen to have them at the moment. Y picked the pictures one by one, said what the picture was, glued it patiently from the center back to its edges, carefully lifted it up, and pasted it onto the paper.
She made a happy gesture and “yum yum yum” as if she was licking the picture of the ice cream. She danced around the room, said “u u u uuu” out loud and waved the picture of a monkey. She put the ball on the floor, tried to kick it using her right foot and said “goal” in victorious action. She searched for a key hole by the door to insert the key picture to. She said “miau miau” when the cat was in the hand.
It took quite a time (around 30-40 minutes) but she had total fun to do this collage on her own. 30 minutes was like forever for a toddler!
Y hasn’t seen these particular pictures before today. She did recognize all the items and can say its name clearly. It was part motorik, part pretend play for her. She learned the skill to glue and paste. I never thought a collage is do-able for Y, let alone she can enjoy the exprience. How wrong I was.
We had a simple decorative craft and the best thing of all: we had fun!
