This Ladybird Action Rhymes: Head, Shoulder, Knees and Toes book has been a huge hit with Y these past 3 days in a row and we bet it is going to last long. We could sing and dance together for at least 10 minutes and she’d ask around 4-5 times a day. So, almost an hour a day total.

It has 5 songs inside
-incy wincy spider
-where, oh where has my little dog gone?
-teddy bear, teddy bear
-the mullberry bush
-head, shoulder, knees and toes
There are short lyrics of the song along with a big drawing of the nursery rhymes on the left and another 4 action cartoons following the rhymes on the right.

Y would said “o wey” meaning “oh where” when she asked me to sing her this “oh where, oh where has my little dog gone?”
She already could remember where each songs are. She would flip the pages, said “spider” if she asks for “incy wincy spider” or “teddy” or “head” for other songs. She’s a total active toddler so she would dance around the room, surrounding me most of the time, while I was singing the nursery rhymes and do my action part.
The nursery rhymes on this book are short and repetitive. Y was so in tune to the words a second or even tenth time and helps her remember what she has heard.
When rhythm and movement are combined, the brain is very stimulated and Y is most likely remember both the movement and the rhyme more efficiently and effectively.
She hasn’t much exposed to nursery rhymes before and by the second day she already jumped out to the incoming rhymes along with its movement. It so cute to see a toddler say “o wey” while make a circle and look around from side to side. Is this the same baby that was born 2.5 years ago? Oh where has my little baby gone?
This morning, the book has win her over her beloved fire truck. That’s new. She consciously left the fire truck, said “bye bye,” and took this book before headed out. Along the way she would flipped the book, pretended she could read it, before said the cue word for us to sing it together.
